The Vision for Adult Social Care

The Vision for Adult Social Care was issued by the Department of Health in November 2010. It sits alongside the review of Adult Social Care Law and the Review of Social Care Funding as three pillars of the reforms proposed for the system in England.  In Control is working separately on the law review with the Law Commission; and we will also be responding to the Funding review document.

In Control has publicly welcomed the Vision for Adult Social Care, which builds on many of the developments that we have pioneered since 2003. But we have expressed concerns that self-directed support and personalisation may become tarnished by the need for big reductions in public spending and in so doing will not be implemented properly; or that self-directed support and personalisation are used as a smokescreen in some localities to obscure the real impact of cuts in eligibility and in resource allocation.

The paper below - Implementing the Vision for Adult Social Care deals with the measures outlined in the Vision in more depth, and sets out how In Control can support citizens, families, user-led organisations, provider organisations, local authorities and others to make a reality of the Vision. It does this by working through the main points of the document and setting out our response.
