Making it Personal is a project funded by the Department
for Education (DfE) whch aims to provide support and advice about
personalisation and personal budgets to parents and carers of
disabled children and young people and commissioners.
In Control was asked by the charity KIDS to develop case studies
on families using personal budgets across England to support the
Making it Personal project.

Handbook for parents
In addition to the case studies, the Making it Personal project
included the development of a handbook for parents whose children
are in receipt of personal budgets.

An e-learning package for parents and carers is also under
development and due for release in 2013. The package will be
supported by regional events.

The Office of Public Management has developed guidance for
commissioners to support the implementation of whole system
changes, which are required in order to make personalisation and

KIDS has received further DfE funding to work on a personal
budgets readiness programme during 2013/14. Specific projects

- To explore how providers can work with families who wish to

- Updating the guidance for commissioners. OPM is leading
on this piece of work on behalf of KIDS including working with
OPM and In Control are collaborating on taking this work forward
to ensure that we encourage commissioners and providers to work
