This page tells you about PLAN Federation UK (Planned lifetime advocacy network).

PLAN Federation UK supports the development of local PLAN groups across the UK and to support similar existing groups.

The PLAN model was created and developed by the PLAN Institute, Vancouver,  twenty years ago and is now well established across Canada. Visit the PLAN Institute website.

The PLAN model

Core values:

PLAN offers families:

Services include:

  • Will and Trust advice and support
  • Social Network development and facilitation (for the person with a disability)
  • Future planning
  • Training and information
  • Advocacy and campaigning re disability and family carer issues.


Why is it different?

  • It is family led and it is independent (does not seek any government support) – it starts with the family
  • It is actively and intentionally builds relationships that provide the disabled person with dignity, friendship, choice and citizenship
  • It helps the community value its members.
  • It is about long term, sustainable support, offering as much as is needed and no more than is necessary. 
  • It starts with the question ‘ what is a good life for you’?  And moves on to ‘lets make it happen’.
  • Its all about hospitality, relationships and community
