Join us for our 24th Children's Programme residential

The 24th residential event for In Control's Children's Programme will take place on November 4th and 5th 2014 in Leeds.

The focus for this two-day event will be on all the good work being done by children's services, the voluntary sector and family-led organisations across England. Groups will be hosted by different services, questions and challenges will be set, with lots of discussion, sharing and thinking about the challenges of supporting children, young people and their families to take more control of their lives.

The draft programme is as follows:

Tuesday November 4th:

10am: Welcome and introductions - Chairperson: Jean Haigh

10.10am: Introductions and group discussion

10.50am: Learning - SQW present their report on personal budgets, the work of the pathfinders and champions, Graham Thom and Christopher Carr

11.20am: COFFEE

11.35am: AGREE or DISAGREE - group activity

12.00am: Review and learn - five workshops on key themes and challenges of introducing and developing a local offer of personal budgets A chance to share your work and what you are challenged by, and to seek         solutions from the group.  Led by members of the In Control Children's Team

Topics likely to include resource allocation, workforce development, co-production, joint commissioning and the provision of information advice and guidance

1pm: LUNCH

2pm: The state of play, Andrew Baxter, DfE (TBC)

2.25pm: Working together, Martin Routledge, In Control

2.50pm: Questions

3.15pm: Workshops - Developing work for the next three and a half years, facilitated by In Control team members.  Sharing and setting out plans for action

4.15pm: Afternoon tea break - networking time

5pm: It's all about better outcomes! Group work facilitated by Claire Lazarus and John Waters

5.45pm: Finish

7.30pm: Evening meal

Wednesday November 5th

9.15am: Welcome to Day 2 - Chairperson:  Zeenat Khan, parent, Newham

9.40am: Families and providers in the driving seat! Group discussion, facilitated by Nic Crosby

10.00am: Workshops - Tackling the issues that matter to families and the voluntary sector, facilitated by In Control Children's members

11.15am: COFFEE

11.45am: Personal budgets, the new Code of Practice and what families are saying to me, Steve Broach, Barrister, Doughty Street Chambers (TBC)

12.15am: Reflections, discussion and questions

12.50am: Round-up

1pm: LUNCH and CLOSE

Bookings

All members of our Children's Programme have two free places at this event. Early confirmation is recommended. To book your place please email caroline.jowett@in-control.org.uk

Additional places for members will be available once we have given all members a chance to book their places.  Additional places for members are offered at a discounted rate of £300 plus VAT

Places for non-members

If there are any remaining places we will allocate these to non-members on a first-come-first served basis. If you would like to be placed on a waiting list for places, please email Caroline and we wil notify you if any places become available.
