Integrated working for better outcomes

SCIE have launched 'Integration - Step by Step' - an online tool to help organisations achieve excellence in delivery of all their services.

'Integration' is about working together to achieve better outcomes. When integration works well, people using services and carers report high levels of satisfaction. Organisations providing services and professionals say it benefits them too.

In an environment where there is more and more emphasis on the need for better quality of care, support for the needs of the individual, a shift towards personalisation and person-centred care and unprecedented pressure on health and social care providers to look for cost savings, knowing how to achieve integration is yet another challenge facing many organisations.

Against this backdrop, SCIE researchers have identified the factors most associated with successful integrated working and created a tool that supports organisations to achieve excellence in all their services and develop effective integration.

Effective integration usually results in working in different ways with different people - this in itself can be a challenge because of the need to change relationships, shift perceptions and share responsibilities and information.

SCIE say that using 'Integration - Step by Step' organisations will be helped to establish effective professional relationships with colleagues across sector and service boundaries and encourage and support people to turn this into a natural way of working, establishing a common purpose and avoiding many of the pitfalls faced by those looking to change their ways of working.
