In Control proud to support ICE and sponsor free places

We are pleased to once again be supporting the Inclusive Community Experience (ICE) and will be sponsoring a number of places to enable people to attend for free.

ICE takes place from the 1st to 3rd February 2015 at Ribby Hall in Wrea Green near Blackpool and is organised by My Life.

"ICE is a conference like no other - it is an experience, with the focus on building an inclusive community and creating a sense of belonging for everyone," says My Life's, chief executive Caroline Tomlinson.

There will be a range of interactive workshops during the three days, including inclusive dance classes, radio presenting and laughter yoga. There will be sessions on turning dreams into a reality, person-centred approaches to care and support and developing people's gifts and talents. The infamous 'come dine with me' experience also makes a return this year as well as there being a variety of entertainment including performances from MIXIT.

"At ICE we run fun and engaging sessions to give people an opportunity to think creatively about practical solutions that will make a real difference to their own lives or to the lives of people they support," continues Caroline.

"It's also a chance for people to come together and meet with others to share experiences, ideas and provide emotional support to one another."

This is the fourth year that ICE has taken place with previous years seeing in excess of 300 delegates.

Everyone is welcome at ICE including people who need support, personal assistants, support workers and carers, practitioners and representatives from public, private, voluntary and third sector organisations.

Susan Boyle, a participant funded by In Control last year said: ""The ICE event has taught me so much about living with disabilities and how inclusion is achievable with the correct support and attitude. The workshops I attended helped me even more to come to terms with everything, and one in particular (the rollercoaster of life) was extremely helpful and quite apt, as the last few years of my life have certainly been a rollercoaster!"

In Control is pleased to be able to subside eight places at this year's event enabling people to participate who would not normally be able to do so.

To apply for a place, please complete this short online form no later than Friday 19th December 2014 providing your contact details and reasons for wanting to attend ICE.

Unfortunately we are only able to fund a limited number of places. We will make a decision on allocation of places in partnership with My Life to ensure that those who will gain the most benefit from attending are able to participate. Priority will be given to those who have not taken part in ICE previously and also to people living in areas where In Control is running personalisation improvement programmes (currently North West, Yorkshire and Humber, East Midlands, Eastern, South East and South West). This is to ensure maximum benefit for participants as we are able to link to wider initiatives running in the region.

Please note that we are only able to fund individual places and cannot subsidise travel costs or support needed during the event.

Successful applicants will be notified by 23rd December 2014.

Other paid-for places are available at £150 per person which includes two nights' accommodation, entertainment and food.  A £50 non-refundable deposit will secure people's booking and the cost can be paid by instalments if required.

Hi, just been reading about the ICE conference, we are very interested in being part of this. Would you be able to let me have link to apply for funding for my Son Michael who has multiple complex additional needs.
We are in a position to fund myself and a PA to accompany him (he is 24hr 1-1 care) , but would appreciate any funding available for him. Thanks .
