Families leading the way in Hull, Staffordshire, Derby and Cornwall & Devon

It's been a busy few months for Partners in Policymaking with family leadership courses taking place in four areas.

A Partners in Health course was recently completed in Hull. The first of its kind, the course brought people and family carers together with professionals and frontline staff to work together to effect positive change in their local area. This included peer-to-peer support, influencing local services and policy, and keeping people central to decisions about their own health care and wellbeing.

Commenting on the course, Stuart Lane, Personal Health Budgets Project Manager for City Health Care Partnership Hull said:

"I can honestly say that it has had a profound impact on all participants. Watching the transformation of disheartened and disillusioned family members into confident, inspired and positive individuals has been overwhelming. As was the witnessing the dynamic between the individuals and professionals completely change. They have all been on a journey together and I every confidence that this is just the start of some very positive things to come."

We are also currently running 'All Together Better' courses in Staffordhsire and in Cornwall and Devon. These courses are about helping people to build new alliances and build on their skills to enable them to gain the knowledge and confidence they need to campaign and advocate for a better future for vulnerable people in our society.

A further All Together Better course will also be starting in the New Year in Derby.
