In Control, Partners in Policymaking and Derby City Council are
on the lookout for people to take part in a free citizen leadership
course.
The course, available to Derby residents, aims to help local
people make the most of the changes in health and social care
particularly in relation to personal budgets. The course will
give people the knowledge and skills that they need to plan better
futures for themselves, their families and other vulnerable
people.
'Sharing the Knowledge' consists of five two-day sessions
covering a range of issues including:
- Why things are the way they are in adult social care
- Understanding and relating to systems
- Creating the right support
- Making change happen locally and nationally
- Listening, learning, planning and creating together
The course is free and will run from January to May 2012 in a
central Derby city venue. There are 30 places available to
people who as a result of a disability, or mental illness, need
support to live the lives they want in their local
communities. The course is also open to their family members
with 20 parents or relatives being allocated places and 10 places
available for disabled adults.
Derby City Council and In Control are looking for people who are
keen to be part of a strong community network and want to champion
change in Derby. They must be passionate about people's right
to be included in community life and be committed to actively
working with others to make life better for vulnerable people.
If you are interested in finding out more about the course, or
