Latest webinar: Building a new relationship with children,
young people and families
10am on Monday 25th March 2013
This session presented by Nic Crosby our Children's Programme
lead will explore the elements of a new relationship between
statutory agencies, services and children and families.
The Green Paper 'Support and Aspiration, a new approach for
special educational needs and disabilities' and the recent
'Progress and Next Steps' document from the Department for
Education has set out an ambitious programme of service
transformation for children with special education needs, their
families and disabled children's services for the next few years.
This programme of change consists of many different elements
including workforce change, the role of the private and voluntary
sector, new approaches to assessment and planning and the
introduction of personal budgets across social care, health and
education.
At the heart of this transformation is the development of a new
relationship between statutory agencies, services and children and
families. And critical to its delivery is the development of a
joined-up approach between agencies.
Latest blog - Personalisation: how to avoid snatching
defeat from the jaws of success
In Control's Head of Operations, Martin Routledge along
with partners and allies, strongly supports the personalisation
agenda. We are afraid though that unless all local delivery mirrors
the best, a historic opportunity to make a big leap forward may be
lost.

Are social care personal budgets working?
In Control's Chief Executive, Julie Stansfield is one of two
social care experts featured on Guardian
online and in tomorrow's Guardian. Julie argues the case for
personal budgets, citing poor delivery in some places for being the
root cause of any failings. The article references the Individual
Service Funds for Homecare report, published this month by In
Control and Helen Sanderson Associates and findings from the
National Personal Budgets Survey, which clearly show that even
those people receiving managed personal budgets achieved positive
outcomes overall .
Peter Beresford, professor of social policy at Brunel University
and chair of Shaping Our Lives, the national disabled people's and
service users' organisation and network has a different opinion and
is calling on the government to change direction.

adult social care commissioners and homecare providers to deliver
